Please don’t ignore this! If you cannot access the Main Roads website to have your say, please contact the PGA. We WILL be making a submission on this, and we are keen to hear your views.
Our industry knows what works on the road. Now’s your chance to speak up.
The WA government is proposing mandatory Roll-Coupling devices for trucks towing trailers—but this engineering-driven solution overlooks practical realities. Our board members, with decades of hands-on driving experience, have raised serious concerns:
> It targets symptoms, not causes. Inexperienced drivers and poor road conditions are the real issues.
> It could make things worse. Preventing pivots may cause entire combinations to roll, increasing driver fatalities.
> It’s an OH&S nightmare. Hitching / unhitching multiple times daily with these hitches creates new risks.
> It’s unworkable in practice. As one industry veteran put it, “you can’t engineer your way out of incompetence.”
CONSULTATION CLOSES 3 July 2026. Don’t let engineers who’ve never sat in a truck cab dictate how you operate.
