About Us

A Legacy of Advocacy for Agricultural Excellence

The Pastoralists & Graziers Association of Western Australia (PGA of WA) is the peak representative body for Western Australia’s pastoralists and graziers, providing an effective and unified voice for members across agricultural and associated industries; both statewide and federally.

Our members are the custodians of some of Australia’s most significant environmental and economic assets. They produce high-quality food and fibre while managing complex landscapes, diverse ecosystems, and deep cultural histories across WA’s vast rangelands.

We work to ensure the prosperity and long-term viability of our members and the agricultural industries they represent, through a financially sound, efficient, and free enterprise organisation with strong leadership and a clear, principled voice.

What We Stand For

The PGA believes that a strong, sustainable, and profitable pastoral industry is essential…

Not just for the economic health of regional WA, but for the social fabric of rural communities and the responsible stewardship of much of the state’s rural land.

We are committed advocates for free market principles. For several generations, Australian farmers have the collective marketing of many of their commodities forced upon them by government regulation.

The PGA supports a free market system that allows producers to obtain the best possible price for their own private property, free from government interference and the market distortions that statutory marketing creates.

We believe the evolution of information technology and the abundance of global market analysis is empowering producers of food and fibre like never before.

As consumer trends drive greater specialisation in both production and processing, the PGA is working to ensure WA’s pastoral producers are positioned to form direct supply links with consumers around the world.

Rules of Operation

This is the governing document of the Pastoralists and Graziers Association of Western Australia. Adopted at the June 2025 general meeting, it sets out the rules by which the Association operates under the Associations Incorporation Act 2015 (WA).

Members looking to understand their rights, how to nominate for committee, how to call a special general meeting, or how disputes are handled will find the answers here. Any changes to these rules require a special resolution passed by at least three-quarters of members voting at a general meeting.

Core Advocacy

The PGA advocates for policy settings built on five core principles:

Certainty in Regulation

Pastoral businesses face significant market and seasonal volatility. All legislation; whether relating to heritage, water, or native title must be practical, clear, and co-designed with the people who live and work on the land.

Recognition as Land Managers

Pastoralists are not merely users of the land; they are its managers, living on it with their families and employees. We advocate for government recognition of the critical role pastoralists play in biosecurity, and environmental and cultural conservation.

Fair Access to Resources

Pastoral lessees have a right to fair and equitable access to the natural resources of their leases, including water. Development opportunities from irrigated agriculture to carbon farming must be accessible to all pastoral enterprises, not just large corporate interests.

Security of Pastoral Lease Tenure

A pastoral lease must be a bankable asset. We call for a statutory right of renewal for compliant leaseholders, ensuring the long-term security needed to invest in infrastructure, diversification, and land improvement.

Free Market Access

The PGA supports a free market system that gives producers the power to obtain the best possible price for their own private property. We oppose government interference in commodity marketing and the statutory market distortions that undermine producer choice.
