2026 is already moving fast. The PGA President has met with Premier Roger Cook on the fuel crisis, attended a WA Water Users Coalition Roundtable with Minister Punch, and provided feedback at the Pastoral Rent Advisory Working Group. Submissions are in on fire weather districts and rail safety lighting, with a Cost Recovery Implementation Statement submission due in March.
Water dominates the agenda. From the lack of government support for the Water Resources Reform Reference Group, to the Fitzroy Basin in the Kimberley, to a DWER briefing on the Fitzroy-Derby Water Plan, the PGA is engaged across multiple fronts. A letter has gone to Minister Jarvis on virtual fencing regulation reform. EU Free Trade Agreement developments are being monitored closely. The PGA is also supporting the Tony Maddox case and reviewing pastoral lease boundary issues with DPLH and DEMIRS.
Not everything is a battle. The PGA has been involved in positive work too, including a water article in Outback Magazine, a review of the ABARES agricultural production snapshot, and ongoing advocacy for the nutritional value of red meat.
