RESUMPTION OF CATTLE EXPORTS WELCOME NEWS - PGA
2011-07-25
Pastoralists and Graziers Association (PGA) President Rob Gillam has welcomed the news that shipments of Australian cattle to Indonesia could resume as early as next week, with livestock exporter Elders expecting to receive an export permit in the next few days.
“This is a positive step in re-establishing live cattle exports to Indonesia and we look forward to seeing this first shipment proceed and the trade swiftly resumed,” Mr Gillam said.
“We trust that this initial shipment will not only lead the way for other exporters to submit their permit applications, but will also provide the Australian public with greater certainty over the ability of the live export industry to ensure that animal welfare standards set down by Minister Ludwig are met.”
