PGA FAULTS GOVERNMENT’S INSURANCE PLAN

2015-05-07

Western Australia’s leading agricultural lobby group, the Pastoralists and Graziers Association (PGA) has labelled the WA State Government’s no-fault insurance scheme as just another cost impost that farmers and pastoralists cannot afford.

“This is another ill informed policy decision by the Government, which was done with no consultation with the agricultural sector,” PGA President Tony Seabrook said.

“There are a lot of farmers and pastoralists around the State who, when you add up the number of trucks, utes, landcruisers, motorbikes, tractors, harvesters and fire units and passenger cars, may have upwards of ten to fifteen licensed vehicles, which will each attract an extra $100 on their registration.”

“This is just another impost which the agricultural community can ill afford to wear.  It is a clear indication that government is not listening to us and does not understand what world competitiveness means," he said

“Western Australian producers are facing numerous pressures from our overseas and interstate competitors and further increases on our costs of production, will just add a greater competitive advantage to our overseas competition.”

“Government needs to stop playing lip service about reducing red tape and listen to the agricultural community about how we can ensure that our agricultural industries competitiveness is enhanced not diminished.”
