PGA APPLAUDS GOVERNMENT’S INVESTMENT PACKAGE IN WA'S GRAIN FREIGHT NETWORK
2010-11-16
The Pastoralists’ and Graziers’ Association of WA applauds the State Government’s announcement of the investment package to bolster Western Australia’s grain freight network.
PGA Western Graingrowers Chairman, Rick Wilson, praised the practical outcome and the inherent recognition that 50% of the State’s grain crop moves by road and that investment in both road and rail infrastructure is vital for the future of our industry.
“Viewing the freight network in its entirety and committing to positive, constructive and realistic investment is a win for everyone in our state.”
“Farmers operate in the commodity business -- a tough game. Margins are thin and players of this game do not enjoy the luxury of being able to inflict high transport and logistics costs upon themselves. Farmers will seek the least-cost pathway, and rail has to compete with road.”
“We’re pleased that the government has recognised that the federal government rail assistance package was predicated on a sensible resolution to the grain freight problem; it’s pleasing to see that this commercially viable result has been negotiated.”
