Imagine going into a shop and buying two loaves of bread and then being asked to pay for five loaves as you walked out.  It would immediately seem kind of strange and you’d feel ripped off - right?  And yet, with traditional crop insurance the system means you can end up paying for more than you get to take home (harvest).

Should there be a big frost, locust plague or no rain, and your crop ends up smaller than you estimated, why should you pay an insurance policy on the whole amount including the damaged grain or lack of grain, it’s hardly fair.
