PASTORALISTS WIN LEASE RENEWAL STOUSH
2013-12-20
WA Pastoralists have had a major win following the State Government conceding to the Pastoralists and Graziers Association’s (PGA) demands that current leaseholders have the option of renewing their pastoral lease on existing terms or committing to a modernised version.
“This is major step forward in what is a very complicated and emotive issue and we welcome the State Government’s announcement that pastoralists will have the option to renew their lease either on the same terms and conditions as their existing lease, or by signing a lease with the same terms and conditions expressed in modern language,’ PGA President Rob Gillam said.
“Pastoralists will soon be receiving a letter from the Minister for Lands confirming these arrangements and will be receiving further correspondence in the New Year regarding eligibility and compliance details.”
“With the 2015 Lease Renewal process finally underway, we can now address the major issues of tenure, rents and rangeland monitoring.”
“We commend Minister Redman for progressing this issue immediately after becoming Minister for Lands and thank Member for North West Vince Catania MLA and Member for Kalgoorlie Wendy Duncan MLA for their hard work and ongoing consultation with the PGA on this matter.”
