Press Release
COMMENCEMENT OF NEW KATANNING SALEYARDS WELCOMED BY PGA
2011-07-04
The Pastoralists and Graziers Association (PGA) has welcomed today’s announcement by the WA State Government of the commencement of the construction of the new Katanning Sheep Saleyards.
“This new state of the art facility is a great endorsement by the State Government of the livestock industry in WA and of the value Great Southern sheep producers provide to their local regional economy,” PGA President Rob Gillam said.
“Today’s announcement will provide an economic benefit not only to the Shire of Katanning, but also to southern sheep producers who will have access to a facility providing increased buyer numbers and competition for their stock.”
PGA Livestock Committee Chairman and Kojonup sheep producer Digby Stretch said the new saleyards would provide producers buyers with a new level of certainty.
“The most important factor in attracting buyers is the assurance of having high enough stock numbers to fulfill orders in good quality facilities,” Mr Stretch said.
“The new saleyards will also provide greater efficiencies in animal welfare and occupational safety and health, with larger receival holding pens and modern loading facilities.”
