Press Release
BEEF LEVY POSITION - PGA
2009-11-04
The Pastoralists & Graziers Association of Western Australia (PGA) is pleased to announce that as a result of pressure brought to bear on the Cattle Council of Australia (CCA) that CCA will be considering a submission from the PGA to consider altering the mode of levy at the CCA AGM in Darwin on November 19.
PGA is pushing for either an ad valorem or multi-tiered levy so as to be more equitable on account of low priced cattle producers.
PGA Meat Committee Chairman Tim D’Arcy said that beef producers should vote and make their own decisions accordingly.
“The PGA in line with the normal practice will not be directing producers how to vote on the upcoming $1.50 levy extension as we feel that all producers have had exposure to MLA presentations or mail outs” Mr D’Arcy said.
“I personally shall be voting in favour of the $1.50 extension as I recognise the benefits that have flowed onto live export and I ask all people to exercise their vote.”
